Aint it strange? The last two times I've seen my cousins(from the other side of the Fam) was in the same place. A graveyard. Fortunately it was an older member of the family, who has lived a full life, whom pasted away
It wasn't a typical Funeral. It was More like a family reunion. I remember members of the family being so excited to see each other, they almost seemed to forget the occasion they were attending.
At the Wake, (Sista) Norma laid in perfect peace, dressed in an immaulate White dress made for heaven! I noticed the many grandkids and realised from a young age I, myself have also been attending funeral as well. The elders in the family has always been well known and highly respected.
I showed my last respect. This was the first time (I can remember )touching a life-less body and so did some of the curious little kids. Who, afterwards said: lets go wash our hands.lol.Silly kids
Can you Picture a full house with your uncles, your third cousins along with family Friends drinking and laughing over a 6-love game of Dominoes.
Or The mothers and aunts speaking loudly in excitement, in the kitchen, with sisters and relatives they haven't seen since the last funeral or family reunion! Everytime I had to get a Plate of rice and peas with jerk or curry chicken, I'd be reintroduced to a family I wished I had a better memory of!
OR our slick looking Older Cousin, big talkin' your aunt's sexy jamaican friend. cos they aint married yet, somewhere by the DJ, who's spinning the songs.
The best is, realising what a small world it is, when a girl you once had a little past with shows up and happens to be friends with ur distant cousin or the cousin who told you he saw you on facebook in the background of their friend's pictures.
Or the group of Cousins you're hesitant to talk with(just yet) Because you're still trying to remember their names and where you last remember seeing them. lol
Plus The Elderly ladies in the quieter parts of the house( Grand Mothers and Such) who might call you and ask who's child are you. They Usually have Names you hear more often than seeing the actual person, along with, my now sweet Grand Mother whom used to spank me reel good.lol
And the YG's. (Young Generations) Running MADLY inbetween everyone and everything in whomever was responsible for housing, the Full House of all the diffent generations of our large family.
This was the scenario I enjoyed for the weekend in three seperate family houses.
The graveyard was a another story...But in honouring Great Aunt Norma's passing, I'll dedicate the first song playing in her momeries. I couldn't work up the nerve to start off singing "Oh it is Jesus": my favorite gospel song from my church days as diffent song and hymns were shouted out ramdomly by others at the point before lowering the body
Like Great Aunt Norma's Pastor said: Sista Norma bought her ticket to heaven when she gave her life to the lord, therefore She was prepared for her day of jugdement.
Have you bought your ticket? hmmmmmmm
